Today, a bus fitted with equipment worth 700.000 Euros started to assess the quality of our roads and traffic safety throughout the country.During 25 days, about 3000 kilometers of roads out of 9000 in the country will be checked.
"It is a more complex assessment procedure. Subsequently, the final report will be ready in two months, thus we will have a detailed analysis about roads condition and what needs to be done in order to ensure quality and traffic safety", Premier Vlad Filat stated.
"As a result of this report, Moldova will have an additional reason when communicating with donors and external partners in order to obtain the necessary financial sources for roads rehabilitation", the Premier said and got into the special minibus, to see how the equipment works.
When he came back, Vlad Filat refused to say "what the quality of roads is", specifying that this “is a remarkable equipment”.
According to John Dawson, iRAP CEO, the project value is 200,000 dollars. The money, including that for equipment purchase, was donated by the World Bank and the Millennium Challenge Corporation.
This year, the state budget allocated 650 million lei for roads rehabilitation. The Premier believes that in 5 years the roads infrastructure will meet the European standards, but a lot of money is necessary for that, maybe millions of dollars.
