The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova notes with concern the increase of attacks against the party, through mass media controlled by politicians from the Democratic Party.

The newspaper "Timpul" published today on its website an article entitled "Secret meeting between Filat and Voronin: CPM will vote Filat as President", which implies that the LDPM president, Vlad Filat met the CPM leader Vladimir Voronin, on August 14th in Tiganca. The article is not signed and has a manipulative content, focusing on the idea recently promoted by DPM in the public opinion and media controlled by one of the representatives of this party.

Contrary to all professional rules of conduct, the newspaper operates with anonymous sources, referring to a meeting which never took place, does not verify the information through reliable sources and draws incorrect conclusions.

LDPM calls on the leaders of the Democratic Party to stop using such dirty practices, not to use media for the interest of the party and let the journalists do their jobs freely.

We believe that freedom of opinion is most valuable benefit that we achieved and we condemn the attempt of some representatives of DPM to use the media to launch dirty attacks against fellows from the Alliance.

Reaffirming our commitment to democratic values, especially to media freedom and freedom of expression, we call on the professionalism and pride of journalists, who are attracted more and more often in the dirty games of some politicians.

LDPM follows with great interest and openness what journalists write about the work of the party and its leaders. We take into account also the critical comments, these being often a means to make certain corrections in our activities and in this respect, we thank all those who tell us when we make some mistakes.
